Reverse Chinatown: Those Who Passed Through

Location: Lower East Side, NYC (TBD)
Opening: End of September (TBD)
Application Deadline: August 31, 2025

In this exhibition, “reverse” is a curatorial method — a way to challenge inherited narratives and dominant gazes. It is a visual inversion, a narrative re-writing, and a return to forgotten spatial memories — shifting who gets to look, speak, and define.

Curatorial Framework

Organized by the Dawn Eleven Contemporary Art Foundation (DeCA), Reverse Chinatown is part of DeCA’s mission to foster cross-cultural dialogue and support emerging artists and curators engaging with public space and social narratives.

This exhibition will take place in a non-profit venue on the Lower East Side, engaging with the historical tensions and contemporary realities of Manhattan’s Chinatown, Little Italy, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Artists will be invited to participate in community discussions, walking tours, and optional workshops as part of the public program.

We believe that art is not only about representation—it is about asking better questions, creating new encounters, and reshaping collective memory.
